Any investor or service provider who engages a company with the aim of exerting influence is referred to as an ‘engager’. An investor may engage a company directly or indirectly, via a service provider or an asset manager. In the latter case, the service provider or asset manager will be designated as the ‘engager’. It is therefore the ‘engager’ who must measure and report on their level of influence. The investor, for their part, may assess this reporting carried out on their behalf by the ‘engager’.
