THE "GRENELLE DE L’ENVIRONNEMENT"
The French governement launches an Ecological Conference : “le Grenelle de l’environnement.
IRP (Professional Retirement Institutions in Europe / Institutions de Retraite Professionnelle en Europe) appeal
In October 2000 the European Commission presented the European Parliament Council with a proposal for a Directive concerning the activity of Professional Retirement Institutions (IRP). This Directive project was the object of debate in Parliament in July 2001 and in the Council in October 2001.
The appeal that we launched demanded that the investment of assets and stocks managed by the IRP within the European Union take into account social, environmental and ethical considerations.
F2R (Retirement Reserve Fund / Fonds de Réserve pour les Retraites) appeal
During the parliamentary debate about the law creating retirement reserve funds, we demanded that a simple principle be included: that the investment orientations and fund management for retirement reserve funds take into account social, environmental and ethical considerations.
This fund’s mission is to create reserves intended to contribute to the durability of retirement systems. These reserves are created for the benefit of the mandatory old age insurance systems. The investment of assets should respect the principles of caution and risk sharing. In order to do so, it is important that the assets of this fund be managed in such a way as not to expose them to an increase in social and environmental risks, with which we are all confronted.
